Pyramids Sound and Light Show

Pyramids Sound and Light Show

Each and every evening Cairo’s visitors are invited to join the spectacle that is the pyramids sound and light show.

Booming voices, eerie music and carefully choreographed lighting effects are used to give visitors an insight into the ancient world of the pharaohs.

Visitors sit together in theatres style seating in the area beneath the Sphinx, as the mighty monument narrates the story.

The show is pre-recorded and features no live actors or musicians. Although the dated effects are considered cheesy by some, the event is continually well attended night after night.

Tickets cost 100 Egyptian pounds and available locally through most hotels and travel agencies, or available to buy on line through the official website. Shows run in a multitude of languages included English, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish, French, Japanese and Arabic.

For an alternative perspective, many of the cafes at the rear of the site offer, ‘dinner and show’ packages from their rooftops. Views are not as good but still decent at some.

You can buy tickets from the restaurants themselves (recommended one day in advance). Those located around Pizza hut have adequate views, as does Pizza hut itself.

If you are planning to attend be sure to wrap up warm as the desert can get extremely chilly after sunset.
