Shark Bay Beach Guide

Introduction Naama Bay Guide Sharm El Maya Guide Shark Bay Guide
Getting to Sharm El Sheikh Sharm El Sheikh Airport

Planning your holiday in Shark Bay

Shark Bay consists of a crescent of beaches located about 10KM north of Sharm El Sheikh Airport.

What was once a quiet diving spot is now almost exclusively dominated by five star holiday resorts.

Any sharks that may have once lived here and given the area its ominous name have long since been frightened off by boats and development.

Accommodation in Shark Bay

The Hilton, the Savoy and several others well known brands all have their slice of the beach, a selection bars, restaurants, pools and an expanse of villa style accommodation blocks.

Sharm Bay Beaches

There is no public beach.

Down by the shore, man made beach style terraces look out towards the sea.  Almost none of the hotels here actually have direct access to the water, and visitors are required to first cross a jetty in order to bypass the coral shelf immediately adjacent to the beach.

The only resort that does in fact have a sandy beach that slides directly into the sea is the Savoy, located at the Southern end of the strip. Its premises are totally gated off to the other hotels and their clients.

A walkway does however run between the Concord, the Hilton and the Seaview resorts meaning that if you stay at any of the above there is at least some opportunity to vary the facilities that you’re using.

Strictly speaking you must be a resident at one of Shark Bay’s resorts to use the facilities/man made beaches here or alternatively be on an organised day trip from a hotel in Naama or Sharm El Maya.

That said, the security is pretty poor and anyone looking like a tourist could probably meander through with enough confidence. I did!

If its beaches you’re after, Sharm has some far superior ones (read about beaches in Sharm el sheikh).

If you’re looking for peace and quiet and an all inclusive ‘sit by the pool and do nothing’ type of holiday then you could certainly do worse than stay in at a resort here.

The snorkelling is pretty good too and boat trips can be organised from the end of the jetty.

Getting Around in Shark Bay

Naame Bay being just 10Km away means that you’re still close enough to get into town for a spot of shopping or a night out. Taxis are available from reception and many of the hotels operate free shuttles into Naama.
