Official Name: The Arab Republic of Egypt

Government Type: Republic

Capital: Cairo

Population: 81,713,520 (June 2008 Est.) 95% of which live in an area of just 36,000 Km2 (The Nile Valley & Delta). That's more than 70 million people living in an area the size of Belgium, or just a quarter the size of the state of Florida.

Borders: Israel (266km), Gaza Strip (11km), Libya (1115km), Sudan (1273km)

Topography: 96.4% of the country's area is made up of barren hills, mountains and desert. The remainder constitutes the Arable Nile Valley and Delta region where the vast majority of the population live.

Chief of State: President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak

Religions: Muslim (mostly Sunni) 90%, Coptic 9%, other Christian 1%

Languages: Arabic (official), English and French widely understood by educated classes

Area:

The Egyptian landmass is roughly equivocal in size to: 1.5 x the size of texas Spain and France combined South Australia 4 x the size of New Zealand South Africa 4.5 x the size of Great Britain Coastline: 2,450 km

Economy: Tourism, Oil and Gas, Suez Canal Revenues, Monies sent home by Egyptians working abroad.

Natural Resources: Petroleum, natural gas, iron ore, phosphates, manganese, limestone, gypsum, talc, asbestos, lead, zinc
