Egyptian Visa Information

Documents and Red Tape for Visiting Egypt

All foreigners visiting Egypt are required to obtain a Visa.

The good news is that for many nationalities, these visas are available on entry into the country. As a rule it is much cheaper and faster to obtain a visa on entry than via the Egyptian consulate or embassy in your own country.

Please use the visa widget on the right hand side of the page to check Egypt entry requirements for any nationality ot to locate you nearest Egyptian Embassy

The Egyptian Visa consists of a pair of stamps that are usually purchased from a kiosk at the airport or other point of entry. These two stamps are then fixed on to the same page in your passport and taken to another kiosk to be stamped.

If you are planning to travel in Egypt, you will likely require one of the following Visas:

1) Sinai 14 Day Free Visa (Available on arrival into Sinai)

This Visa is available on arrival in Sinai and is free of charge.

However, this visa will only allow you to visit the east coast of the Sinai along the Gulf of Aqaba ( Nuweiba, Dahab, Sharm el Sheikh etc) and St Catherine.

You will not be permitted to visit mainland Egypt (even for a day!) such as Cairo, or Luxor or Hurghada and nor will you be able to visit Ras Mohammed National Park which is in Sinai but still off limits to those with only a Sinai Visa.

2) Tourist Visa

The tourist Visa is valid for a period of three months and allows the holder up to one month in the country from first point of entry. The tourist visa is available on arrival into the country for single entry cases.

These visas are sold at Kiosks at the airport. There are often several Kiosks selling the same visa for varying prices. Those kiosks representing hotels and tour operators typically add a couple of dollars to the price.

Keep exploring and you'll find a bank or government office selling the same visas for slightly less.

Multiple entry tourist egypt visas will need to be acquired in advance at the Egyptian consulate/embassy in your country of residence.

Depending on point of entry, single entry tourist visa usually cost about 15$US (Payalble in Dollars, Euros, or Pounds Sterling)

Nationals of the following countries will need to apply for visas in advance:

Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Chechnya, Croatia,Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kirghizia, Lebanon, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Morocco, Pakistan, Palestine, The Philippines,Russia, Serbia, Slovenia, Sri-Lanka, Tadzhikistan, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and all African countries.
