May in Egypt

Weather and Temperatures

May is one of the best months to visit Egypt if you’re agenda is primarily steered by sunshine. The weather hot, but still tolerable unlike some parts of the county in July and August. If however you’re sensitive to the heat you may find Jan – April better months for sightseeing in cooler climes.

The spring months are also a good time for hiking in Egypt and ideal for excursions into the Western desert, where temperatures are neither too hot in the daytime nor freezing at night.

The north of the country in and around the Nile Delta is typically cooler than the south of the country with temperatures in Cairo ranging from between 17-33 ̊ C, and in Alexandria between 18-26 ̊ C. The southern Nile valley around Aswan is more oppressive with temperatures of 23-39 ̊ C.

The Red Sea resorts enjoy spectacular sunny days around this time coupled with a sea breeze to take the edge off the heat. Temperatures in Sharm El Sheikh range between 24-33 ̊ C and in Hurghada 21-30 ̊ C.
