Cairo and the Red Sea

Cairo and the Red Sed Sea

(Cairo – Aswan – Luxor – Hurghada – Cairo)

Summary

A two week itinerary starting and ending in Cairo that allows for fair exploration of Upper Egypt before heading across to the Red Sea coast and the resort of Hurghada. A fairly unstrenuous itinerary that allows time to relax in Hurghada (package holiday city).

If you want more of a backpacker vibe you should consider the Cairo to Cairo via Dahab instead. To save time you may want to consider booking you hotels before you travel.

Description

If you want see two sides of Egypt in one trip, this could be the itinerary for you. The first week is spent visiting monuments and museums in Cairo and the South. The Second week is spent at the Red Sea resort of Hurghada, sunning yourself and enjoying the aquatic activities in the area.

Spend the first two days in Cairo  (see full Cairo Itinerary) visiting the Pyramids, the Egyptian Museum and the markets before taking an overnight train south to Aswan (or alternatively take a cheap flight to Aswan), and then working your way back north.

Spend one day in Aswan enjoying the river Nile and its surrounding by sail boat and depending on the tightness of your schedule and budget spend a second day making the trip south to Abu Symbel.

On Day four/five you can relocate to Luxor where the majority of Pharoahnic monuments are located (See Luxor Itineraries) and stay for two days.

A 4/5 hour bus journey from Luxor will bring you to the Red Sea resort of Hurghada. Here you can check yourself into a luxury hotel for a week and spend some quality time with a good book and some sunshine.

When it’s time to leave, regular buses run to Cairo (4hours) several times per day.
