July in Egypt - Alternative Egypt Travel Guide

July in Egypt

Weather and Temperatures

Come July in Egypt, the locals start to exodus on mass to the northern beaches of Alexandria and Mersa Matrouh, where the Mediterranean breeze makes the Egyptian summer heat bearable. Temperatures in Alexandria during this time range between 23 and 29 ̊ C

If you’re planning to travel North in July, be sure to book all transportation and accommodation well in advanced.

Cairo is humid and unpleasant (21 – 36 ̊ C), and although the heat in Aswan (26 – 41 ̊ C) is dry, the breeze blowing across the Nile can at times feel like a hair dryer set to full power.

Having said that, if you can handle the temperature, summer in Aswan is remarkably peaceful and the lack of tourists mean that prices are lower and everything is up for negotiation.

This also goes for the Red Sea resorts where there is a dearth in tourism during this period. Temperatures in Hurghada range between 32 – 35 ̊ C and in Sharm El Sheikh 27 – 28 ̊ C. Inland Sinai and the St Catherine’s protectorate is cooler with temperatures between 18 – 32 ̊ C.

If you plan on visiting the antiquities during the summer, expect to rise before dawn and finish your excursions by early afternoon to avoid the hottest part of the day.

The western desert is certainly off limits at this time and any excursions in the region have ceased.
