Getting to Sharm El Sheikh

Getting to Sharm El Sheikh

Introduction Naama Bay Guide Sharm El Maya Guide Shark Bay Guide
Getting to Sharm El Sheikh Sharm El Sheikh Airport

Sharm El Sheikh is an easily accessible resort by air, land and sea.

Flying to Sharm el Sheikh

Most of Sharm El Sheikh’s purported 3 million annual visitors arrive by plane.

Landing at Sharm El Sheikh Airport, the resorts of Sharm El Maya, Naama Bay, and Shark Bay are just a short drive away.

That said Sharm El Sheikh is also well connected to other domestic destinations within Egypt by public transport.

Visitors can fly to Taba Airport, located a few hours drive away in Sinai and then transfer to Sharm by bus.

Even Hurghada is just a few hours away by ferry across the Red Sea (when it’s running – read for up date on ferry). For more information on both of these options read the below…

Ferry to Sharm El Sheikh

A ferry runs daily between Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada. Visitors flying into Hurghada can be in Sharm in just a few hours if all is well with the ferry (i.e. barring any major delays or cancellations).

Similarly for travellers intending an onward journey to Luxor and the sites of Upper Egypt, this sea connection is by far the most convenient option, shaving some 10 hours off the same journey by bus.

The ferry terminal is located near the Old Market up the hill at the Southern end of Sharm el Maya beach. Tickets can be purchased from a number of travel agents in Sharm El Sheikh and elsewhere in Egypt.

Buses to Sharm El Sheikh

Other destinations within Sinai or on the mainland are easily linked by public bus including Dahab, Nuweiba, Taba, Cairo and Alexandria.

Sharm El Sheikh has two bus stations.

Hay El Nur Bus Station is located close to Sharm El Maya across the road from Sharm International Hopsital (the one shaped like a Pyramid).

Super Jet buses run regular services from here to Cairo and Alexandria:

For connections with other Sinai resorts visit Roissat bus station located 5Km from Naama bay and near the Bedouin town of Roissat. There are regular buses from here to Dahab and Nuweiba.

Travellers wanting to reach St Catherine’s will find it more difficult if not on an organised tour. First you would need to take a bus to Dahab and then hire a service taxi.

If you haggle you should be able to negotiate a private vehicle from Dahab for circa 200LE. A taxi from Sharm all the way to St Catherine's would cost in the region of 400LE.
