Two Week Itinerary Hurghada Cairo and Upper Egypt
(Hurghada - Cairo - Aswan - Luxor - Hurghada)
Summary
This is an enjoyable and relatively leisurely two week itinerary that takes in the major sites of Upper Egypt. Including enough time in Cairo to see more than just the essentials, this itinerary still allows for a decent slug of beach time by the Red Sea at the end.
Description
Fly into Hurghada and spend the afternoon acclimatising. You’ll also need to buy your bus ticket to Cairo this afternoon if not already pre purchased. I recommend you leave town as quickly as possible and leave the beach time until the end, when you really deserve it.
Take a bus to Cairo on Day 2 (5 hours) and spend the afternoon exploring downtown and the Egyptian museum if time permits.
The following days can then be spent at the Pyramids of Giza and Saqqara too if you don’t dawdle. Try to also include time to explore Old Islamic Cairo, one of the most interesting and yet overlooked neighbourhoods in the capital (see Cairo itineraries).
On the evening Day 4 board the overnight train to Aswan (or alternatively take a cheap flight to Aswan).
One full day and two half days are available to enjoy Aswan. Use the full day to visit Abu Simbel and the half days to see the town, the souq and hire a felucca on the River Nile (see Aswan attractions).
Take the train to Luxor on the afternoon of Day 7 and use the following days to visit sites on both the East and West bank of the River Nile (see Luxor itineraries).
By Day 10 you should be making your way back to Hurghada by vehicle (either public bus or private transfer).
With the hard travelling and sight seeing behind you, you now have several full days to enjoy some serious beach and sunshine and action.
