How to Get to Dahab?
Dahab is well connected to other Egyptian destinations by transport of varying comfort, price and speed.
There are four East Delta buses each day to Cairo leaving 08.30, 12.30, 14.30, and 22.00. Tickets cost 90LE and the journey takes between 9 – 11 hours. Several other buses leave daily for Suez, Nuweiba, and Taba.
The gruelling 18hours bus journey to Luxor starts at 4pm each day. Although the bus for Saint Catherine still appears on timetables, this is by all accounts highly unreliable so travellers should check at the bus station and prepare a contingency plan.
The bus station is located in Dahab city, just a couple of kilometres west of Assalah (where most visitors stay). Tickets can be bought at the station or from hotels and travel agents in the bay.
There is no airport in Dahab (yet…), however there are regular flights from Europe to Sharm El Sheikh and Taba in Egypt. Eilat (Israel) and Aqaba (Jordan) are also only a short distance away. There is a ferry from Aqaba to Nuweiba, which is just a one hour bus ride from Dahab, and if you cross the border from Eilat to Taba you can reach Dahab is less than two.
The ferry from Hurghada to Sharm El Sheikh is a handy way to reach Sinai from Upper Egypt without having to undergo the horror of an eighteen hour bus journey.
The ferry takes just 90 minutes on a good day. On arrival at Sharm El Sheikh, you can go to the bus station and catch one of a number of daily buses to Dahab (1.5 hours) for about 11LE per person.
Reps with minivans wait at the ferry terminal to whisk travellers off to Dahab. This is faster and less hassle than taking the bus and costs about 50-60LE.
Private car is another option if you don’t like the idea of public transport and have some money to spend. Ask around at your hotel and at travel agencies in the area. Prices vary greatly. Make sure you know what kind of vehicle you’re getting for your money.
