Sinai to Cairo via Upper Egypt - Alternative Egypt Travel Guide

Description

Entering Egypt overland from Israel or Jordan, your first stop will be Nuweiba and the laid back resort of Tarabin. Spend a night or two and then move down the coast to Dahab.

By basing yourself here you can choose to either simply kick back, or organise a number of worthwhile excursions. These might include a short trip to local snorkelling spots such as the blue hole, a trekking or jeep safari trip to the coloured canyon, or an overnight effort to Saint Catherine and the sacred Mount Sinai .

After 5/6 days it’s time to move on to mainland Egypt .

One long day of travelling will get you over to Luxor. First take the bus to Sharm El Sheikh (1hour) then taken the ferry to Hurghada (1.5 hours) and finally a 4/5 hour bus journey to Luxor. If this sounds too arduous you can break up the journey with a night in a hotel in Hurghada before continuing to Luxor.

A couple of days in Luxor (see Luxor Itineraries) will get you acquainted with ancient Egypt before you take the train south to Aswan. After a day in Aswan (see Aswan Itineraries), and a possible a trip to Abu Simbel (f time and money permit), take the overnight train north to Cairo (or alternatively take a cheap flight to Cairo).

You should have a full two days to explore Cairo (See Recommended Cairo Itinerary). If time permits, you can take a train to Alexandria (2hours) for the afternoon or a night before flying home from Cairo.

DAY 2: Full day relaxing in Nuweiba
DAY 3: AM Bus/Taxi to Dahab PM Relaxing in Dahab
DAY 4: Full day in Dahab for relaxing or excursions
DAY 5: Full day of travelling - Bus to Sharm, Boat to Hurghada
DAY 6: AM Bus from Hurghada to Luxor PM Explore Luxor
DAY 7: Full day in Luxor
DAY 8: Full day in Luxor
DAY 9: AM Train to Aswan
DAY 10: Full day in Aswan (Or visit Abu Simbel)
DAY 11: Full day in Aswan, O/N Train to Cairo
DAY 12: AM Arrive Cairo PM Explore downtown
DAY 13: Full Day Cairo
DAY 14: Fly home
